Dr. med. Jakob von Känel

Specialist in pediatrics and adolescent medicine, owner

I completed my medical studies at the University of Bern in 1986 with the state examination and then allowed myself three years of scientific work and a somewhat more complex doctoral thesis.

I trained as a pediatrician in Berne and Zurich and then worked as a senior physician at the University Hospital of Zurich and the Cantonal Women's Hospital in Berne. In February 1998, I was able to take over a pediatric practice in Lachen on the upper part of Lake Zurich, which I ran with great pleasure until September 2011. When I moved to the canton of Bern in October, I took over Dr. Ryffel's practice, which has been called Iuvenis Children's and Adolescents' Practice since 2012.

During my time at the hospital, my main interest was in neonatal medicine with the smallest newborns and premature babies. In practice, my interest in child development has increasingly shifted to preschool to adolescent age, making the assessment and treatment of attention deficit disorder and behavioral problems (ADHD) an increasing focus of my work. Through further training at home and abroad and by participating in working groups, I was able to further deepen my expertise.

In addition to my work in practice, I am also involved as a school doctor at the Pedagogical Center for Hearing and Speech in Münchenbuchsee and am active in various working groups.

I am married and the father of two grown-up sons.
