Dr. Katarzyna Konieczka is a specialist in ophthalmology. After completing her medical studies and specialist training in ophthalmology in Poland, she joined the University Eye Clinic in Basel in 2008, where she trained as a glaucoma specialist under the supervision of Prof. J. Flammer. Her scientific and clinical focus is on glaucoma, in particular normal-tension glaucoma and ocular blood flow.

Over many years in the university setting, she has gained experience in diagnosing and treating glaucoma, especially normal-tension glaucoma. In both research and clinical practice, as a collaborator of Prof. J. Flammer, she was able to gain in-depth knowledge of Flammer Syndrome (FS), which is also a risk factor for glaucoma. Since 2017, in addition to her research at the University of Basel, she has been running a glaucoma consultation at the Augen Zentrum Fankhauser in Bern. With her holistic approach, she considers glaucoma in the broader context of body and mind.

Dr. Konieczka has authored numerous scientific publications (see publication list). She introduced FS into the international scientific literature. She is also the lead author of the new edition of the “Glaucoma Book,” originally written by J. Flammer and translated into 24 languages. See also: www.glaukomforschung.ch
