Dr. med. Rene Fahrner

René Fahrner grew up in Germany and studied human medicine at the Eberhard Karls University in Tübingen, where he also completed his doctorate. After his state examination, he began his surgical training at renowned hospitals in Germany and Switzerland, including the University Hospital Münster, Inselspital Bern and Spital Limmattal. He deepened his specialization in visceral and vascular surgery at the University Hospital Jena and the Bürgerspital Solothurn. This was followed by senior positions at Thun Hospital and Inselspital Bern, where he expanded his expertise in complex procedures and minimally invasive surgical techniques. In addition to his clinical work, he was also active in the scientific field and in teaching, which ultimately led to his habilitation in 2018. Today, he runs the Chirurgie Team Grenchen practice and works as an attending physician at several private clinics in the region. Since August 2025, he has supplemented this commitment with a 20% workload at Espace Chirurgie. He is now also a researcher at the University of Bern and continues to publish regularly in specialist journals and acts as a reviewer for several specialist journals. He is particularly interested in visceral surgery, vascular surgery and modern, gentle surgery for benign and malignant diseases.
