### Presentation of the healthcare professional
Dr Paolo Fontanella is an FMH specialist in urology. He diagnoses, treats and monitors diseases of the urinary tract in men and women, as well as disorders of the male genital tract. His practice covers urinary disorders, prostate pathologies, urinary calculi, urological infections and diseases requiring specialized surgical management.
He completed his pre-graduate training at the Vita-Salute San Raffaele University in Milan, Italy, before continuing his post-graduate training between Switzerland and Austria. His career took him to leading hospitals, including the Inselspital in Berne and the University Hospitals of Geneva (HUG), where he developed in-depth expertise in general urology and modern surgical techniques. He obtained his FMH specialist title in urology in 2021.
Dr Fontanella joined the Ensemble hospitalier de la Côte (EHC) in March 2023 as Head of Clinic, before being appointed Assistant Physician in October 2024. He is actively involved in the development of innovative treatments in urology, and has particular experience in minimally invasive techniques for the treatment of prostate pathologies.
His activities include the treatment of benign prostatic hypertrophy, male urinary disorders, kidney stones and urological pathologies requiring specialized follow-up. He was instrumental in introducing the Rezum technique for thermo-vaporization of the prostate and in developing laser enucleation of the prostate at the EHC.
