Dr Astrid Roosendaal is a urology specialist and surgeon. After several years as a senior registrar at Geneva University Hospitals (HUG), she specialised in uro-oncology and robotic surgery (Da Vinci system). She then obtained the title of FMH specialist in operative urology, which certifies her competence in major surgical procedures.

Areas of expertise

• Uro-oncology

Dr Roosendaal treats cancers of the bladder and ureters (often diagnosed following macrohaematuria, i.e. the presence of blood in the urine), prostate cancer – for which PSA testing, prostate MRI and biopsies are the main diagnostic tools – as well as kidney and testicular cancer.

As part of early prostate cancer screening, she offers tailored, personalised follow-up care.

• Urinary lithiasis (kidney stones)

Kidney stones are also treated. Procedures are performed endoscopically, a minimally invasive approach that allows for faster recovery.

• Functional urology

Dr Roosendaal also treats functional urinary disorders: difficulty emptying the bladder (bladder globe), pollakiuria (frequent urination), urinary urgency and urinary incontinence.

In men, these disorders are often linked to benign prostatic hyperplasia.

In women, postpartum or later in life, prolapse (descent of organs) can occur, which can be debilitating. Tailored, personalised solutions are offered to improve patients' quality of life.

Consultations and procedures

Consultations, examinations (ultrasound, cystoscopy, cytology) and certain procedures (BCG instillations, vasectomies) are performed at the Archimed Medical Centre.
