### Presentation of the healthcare professional
__Shiatsu__ is a manual therapy of Japanese origin which aims to restore the overall balance of body and mind by stimulating the vital force, *Ki*. By applying gentle pressure, stretching and mobilization along the energy meridians, Shiatsu supports the body's natural self-regulating capacities.
It can be beneficial for a wide range of disorders, such as :
- __work on the abdomen (digestive disorders)__
- __work on the shoulders__
- __anchoring and stability (lower body)__
- stress, fatigue, insomnia
- joint, muscle or back pain
In addition to relieving symptoms, Shiatsu promotes __deep relaxation__ and self-awareness, and helps to restore calm, vitality and joie de vivre. Used preventively, it provides excellent support for maintaining good health over the long term.
## Pregnancy and babies
Shiatsu is particularly suitable for __pregnant women__, from the very beginning of pregnancy. It helps to harmonize emotions, relieve the minor aches and pains of pregnancy and, ultimately, gently prepare the body and mind of both mother and baby for birth.
__Shiatsu for babies__ supports the child's harmonious development. Based on traditional knowledge of the meridians and modern neurophysiology, it relieves minor discomforts and supports the various key stages of development.
## Support during chemotherapy
Shiatsu can accompany people __before, during and after chemotherapy__. It supports energy and the immune system, helps reduce certain side-effects (nausea, digestive disorders, fatigue, pain, tingling) and also acts on the emotional level by reducing stress and anxiety, while improving sleep.
The aim is to support the patient so that he or she can follow the planned medical treatment as closely as possible.
## Complementary medicine
Shiatsu is not a substitute for medical treatment, but a __complementary medicine__ that takes into account the whole person - body, mind and environment. In the case of serious symptoms, medical advice is essential.
