### Presentation of the healthcare professional
## My Career
I grew up in the canton of Lucerne and attended high schools in Willisau and Sursee, graduating with my Matura in Sursee in 1983. This was followed by a gap year working in a wine specialty shop in Lucerne and a several-month trip through the USA.
In 1984, I began my preclinical medical studies in Fribourg. I completed my clinical studies at the University of Bern. As part of a second elective year at the end of my studies, I spent eight months in Central America, where I first learned Spanish and then worked for several months as a junior assistant in a small hospital in Huehuetenango, in the mountains of Guatemala. I graduated in 1991 with the Swiss medical state examination.
Early on, I discovered my passion for surgical disciplines, particularly plastic and hand surgery. I completed my basic surgical training with four years as a surgical resident in general surgery in Sursee and at the Cantonal Hospital of Aarau, and one year in orthopedics at the Cantonal Hospital of Fribourg. In 1996, I began my specialization as a resident in plastic and hand surgery at the Cantonal Hospital of Aarau, where I was able to learn this fascinating field on a broad basis. In 1999, I successfully passed both the European and Swiss board examinations for Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery.
In January 2000, I joined the University Clinic for Hand Surgery at Inselspital Bern, where I was promoted to senior physician after only two months. In 2001, I successfully passed the Swiss board examination for Hand Surgery. In 2002, I was appointed senior physician in the Department of Plastic Surgery, where I was able to work in an extremely complex and wide-ranging field until 2007. During my time at Inselspital, I also completed an Executive MBA in General Management at the University of St. Gallen alongside my clinical work. I then spent two years as a consultant for aesthetic surgery at the Hospital Group in Birmingham, a leading clinic for cosmetic surgery and anti-aging in the United Kingdom, where I was able to perfect my knowledge and skills.
In 2009, together with a colleague, I founded the Centerclinic in Bern, where I have since been working with great dedication as a Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeon.
Since 2012, I have been a board member of the Swiss Society of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery.
