Prof. Dr. med. Jörg Stürmer

Prof. Dr. med. Jörg Stürmer has decades of clinical and academic experience in ophthalmology - particularly in the field of glaucoma, which has accompanied him scientifically and practically since the beginning of his career.

He completed his training in human medicine at the University of Basel, where he also gained his doctorate. After working in Basel, Erlangen and Zurich, he specialized in glaucoma at an early stage. From 1990 to 1992, he completed a highly specialized glaucoma fellowship at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London - one of the leading international centers for eye diseases.

Back in Switzerland, he worked for nine years as a senior consultant at the University Eye Hospital in Zurich. In 1998, he was awarded the venia legendi for ophthalmology at the University of Zurich, where he also worked as a lecturer.

From 1999 to 2023, Prof. Stürmer was Head of the Eye Clinic at Winterthur Cantonal Hospital. During this time, he helped shape glaucoma diagnostics and therapy internationally, promoted continuing medical education and contributed to the linking of clinical practice and research.

His eye for the essentials, his precise diagnostics and his many years of academic background make him a highly valued specialist - both among colleagues and patients.
