Dr. med. Karin Øyo-Szerenyi

Dr. Karin Øyo-Szerenyi is an FMH-certified specialist in ophthalmology and eye surgery, a laser specialist, and a glaucoma specialist in Zurich. Since 2025, she has been in private practice at the Claridenhof Eye Clinic in Zurich. Her clinical expertise includes ophthalmology, laser surgery, and the diagnosis and treatment of glaucoma.

Ophthalmology deals with the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases and disorders affecting the eyes and vision. Ophthalmic surgery involves surgical procedures to treat certain eye diseases, while laser treatments may be used for specific ophthalmic indications. Dr. Öyo-Szerenyi has particular expertise in the areas of laser surgery and glaucoma, a group of eye diseases associated with damage to the optic nerve that require appropriate monitoring and treatment to preserve vision.

Dr. Öyo-Szerenyi studied medicine at the University of Zurich. From 1992 to 1994, she completed a research fellowship in ophthalmology at the Doheny Eye Institute of the University of Southern California School of Medicine in Los Angeles, where her work included, among other things, research and publications on laser surgery. She then completed her residency training at the Eye Clinic of the Lucerne Cantonal Hospital and at the University Hospital of Zurich, earning her board certification in ophthalmology and her doctorate in 1999.

Her professional career includes positions at various ophthalmology practices in Switzerland and Germany. From 2010 to 2023, she also served as a senior physician at the Eye Clinic of the Lucerne Cantonal Hospital, where her focus was on laser surgery.

Since 2016, Dr. Øyo-Szerenyi has been furthering her training in the field of glaucoma at the Rapperswil Eye Center, as well as through clinical rotations at the Lucerne Cantonal Hospital, Moorfields Eye Hospital in London, and Rigshospitalet in Copenhagen. She is also an active member of the communications team for the European Glaucoma Society and speaks at European conferences.
