Álvaro de Santiago is a specialist in ophthalmology and specializes in the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of diseases of the eye and visual system. Ophthalmology includes the diagnosis of visual complaints, preventive examinations and the treatment of diseases such as cataracts, glaucoma and retinal diseases.

Dr. Álvaro de Santiago completed his medical studies from 2012 to 2018 at the Universities of Lausanne and Bern. In 2019, he completed his doctorate at the University of Bern under the supervision of Prof. T. Pabst. During his year abroad, he worked in internal medicine at Tiefenau Hospital.

He began his specialist training in ophthalmology at the Jules-Gonin University Hospital in Lausanne under the direction of Prof. T. J. Wolfensberger, MD. He then continued his training at the University Hospital Inselspital Bern under Prof. Dr.-Ing. Dr. med. S. Wolf and Prof. Dr. Dr. med. M. Zinkernagel. He passed the FEBO specialist examination in May 2024.
