As an ASCA-certified therapist, I offer manual lymphatic drainage sessions using the VDR method, a gentle, rhythmic technique designed to stimulate lymphatic circulation and support the proper functioning of the lymphatic system.
## What is the lymphatic system?
The lymphatic system is a network essential to the proper functioning of our body. It consists of lymphatic vessels, lymph nodes, and lymphoid organs that help maintain fluid balance and support the immune system.
__Lymph__ is a clear fluid that circulates through this network. It transports immune cells and helps remove excess fluid from the tissues, returning it to the bloodstream.
Unlike the circulatory system, which relies on the heart’s pumping action, the lymphatic system depends primarily on muscle movement, breathing, and the contractions of its own vessels to ensure lymph circulation.
## What is its role in our body?
The lymphatic system performs several essential functions:
__• Fluid balance:__ It removes excess fluid from the tissues, thereby helping to limit the formation of edema.
__• The immune system:__ It plays an active role in the body’s natural defenses. Lymph nodes filter lymph and serve as key sites for immune surveillance and response.
__• Fat transport:__ It plays a role in the absorption and transport of certain dietary fats in the intestine.
__• Elimination of cellular waste:__ It helps transport certain substances and waste products present in the tissues, which are then processed by the body’s natural elimination mechanisms.

Manual lymphatic drainage is a technique consisting of precise, slow, and gentle movements performed in harmony with the natural functioning of the lymphatic system.
