Dr. med. Nikolai Pfender

Nikolai Pfender, MD, is a specialist in neurology with a focus on neuroimmunology/multiple sclerosis, peripheral neuropathies, spinal diseases and neuromuscular diseases.

Dr. Nikolai Pfender studied medicine at the Albert-Ludwigs-University of Freiburg im Breisgau. In his dissertation, he researched mechanisms of immune tolerance in contact allergy (Prof. Dr. Thilo Jakob). He completed his neurological training at the University Hospital Zurich (Prof. Dr. Michael Weller). His clinical and scientific focus was on neuroimmunology/multiple sclerosis under Prof. Dr. Roland Martin, as well as neuromuscular diseases (Prof. Dr. Hans Jung). This was followed by several years as a senior physician at the Center for Paraplegia at Balgrist University Hospital with a focus on paraplegia (Prof. Dr. Armin Curt) and neurophysiology (PD Dr. Martin Schubert), as well as scientific work with a focus on MRI imaging of the spinal cord (Prof. Dr. Patrick Freund).

In addition to his practice at the Neurozentrum Bellevue, Dr. Nikolai Pfender is a consultant physician at the Hirslanden Clinic in Zurich and a scientifically associated physician at the Center for Paraplegia at Balgrist University Hospital.

He has also completed further training in the field of traditional Chinese medicine (Swiss Medical Association for Acupuncture, SACAM).
