The role of angiology in medical diagnostics

Vascular medicine, also known as angiology, deals with diseases of the blood vessels. These are of crucial importance for the supply of oxygen and nutrients to our organs. While the arteries supply blood to the tissue, the veins transport it back to the heart. Just how important it is for this circulation to function smoothly is shown by the variety of symptoms that can occur in the event of disorders.

Diagnosis and treatment of arterial diseases

• Diagnosis of arterial diseases using oscillography, Doppler pressure measurement, duplex sonography of all arteries, supplemented by modern cross-sectional imaging diagnostics (CT, MRI) if required
• Minimally invasive endovascular arterial interventions using percutaneous transluminal balloon angioplasty (PTA with conventional or drug-coated balloon catheters), stent placement (conventional or drug-coated), drug dissolution of clots (lysis)
• Minimally invasive percutaneous closure of abnormal vascular dilatations (aneurysms) using vascular prostheses (stent grafts) and vascular closure techniques (coils, vascular glue, etc.) in collaboration with our partner hospitals
• Open vascular surgery on arteries such as thrombendarterectomy, bypass operations, repair of injured vessels or treatment of abnormal vascular dilatation in collaboration with our partner hospitals
