Aeberli D.O.GDK and Reto Huber D.O.GDK __General Information:__ The treatment begins with a detailed conversation in which the patient's medical history is thoroughly recorded. __Definition & History:__ Osteopathy is a holistic medicine that serves the diagnosis and manual treatment of functional disorders. Its origins go back to the 19th century when American doctor Andrew Taylor Still (1828-1917) defined the three basic principles of osteopathy (1874): - The human being is a functional unit of body, mind, and soul. - The body consists of tissue structures whose form and function are inseparably interconnected. A change in structure inevitably leads to a change in function, and vice versa. - The body possesses self-healing powers that enable it to overcome illnesses and ailments. Osteopathic treatment supports and activates these mechanisms by eliminating existing functional disorders. Osteopathy assumes that the body functions because it can execute movements. For the osteopath, this includes not only the well-known movements of the joints and muscles but also the fine and unconscious movements of almost all body structures and organs. According to the teachings of osteopathy, a slight loss of movement or elasticity in organs, tissues, or joints can lead to impaired function and, consequently, to potential complaints and pain in different areas of the body. __Areas of Application:__ Osteopathy is suitable for people of all ages.
